Welcome to Life at Temple Baptist Church

At Temple Baptist Church in Salida, Colorado, we are interested in life. Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Life is what Jesus is all about.

Temple Baptist Church is all about life, life here on earth and eternal life in heaven. We invite you to join us in life. It’s Happening Right Now!

If you're spiritually alive, you're going to love this! If you're spiritually dead, you won't want to read it.  If you're spiritually curious, there is still hope!

Servant Evangelism

Servant Evangelism is a Biblical approach to touching the world for Jesus. It acts of kindness maybe the only touch of God some will ever receive. Servant Evangelism is reaching out to touch someone out of kindness expecting nothing in return. Just simply reaching out to say God loves you. God cares about you. God is interested in every area of your life.

Servant Evangelism wins the heart before it confronts the mind. A small act of kindness nudges a person closer to God, often in a profound way as it bypasses ones mental defenses. The average Christ-follower is willing to hand a stranger a can of cold Coke on a hot day (low risk) or for a church to pay $1 per gallon for someone’s gasoline. The high grace is seen in the typical reaction. "Oh, thank you!" "This is so nice!" "I can't believe this is for free!" And, "Why are you doing this?"

Kindness builds the bridge for the person to receive a touch of love from God. It's simple, practical, effective, inexpensive and fun! Who doesn’t like to be given a break at the gas pumps today? Especially by someone who is smiling, happy and having fun. Kindness builds the bridge for the person to receive a touch of love from God. It’s simple, practical, effective, inexpensive and fun!

Why do servant evangelism?

The goal in all Servant Evangelism is for us to be available to show God in two ways, first, by being physical representatives distributing his love in a practical way–however that happens. And second, to be ready to ‘Give an account of the hope that lies within us’ as Peter explains.

“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples." John 13:35
Servant Evangelism is being who God has called us today. It is an easy yet effective way to reach people with the gospel. How many of you have said that you would like to witness to people, but you feel intimidated? Well that is where this method can help you out.

Steve Sjogren wrote a book on Servant Evangelism and gave seven reasons for a church to be involved in servant Evangelism:

1. "It changes the world, one person at a time."
2. "It's fun!"
3. "It ushers in the kingdom of God."
4. "Anyone can do this stuff"
5. "It demonstrates to the cultures of the world that God's love is real."
6. "It works anywhere."
7. "It works!"

It is our job to reach OUT and not to just reach IN.

One minister said this to other ministers, “In the Great Commission the Lord has called us to be--like Peter--fishers of men. We've turned the commission around so that we have become merely keepers of the aquarium. Occasionally I take some fish out of your fishbowl and put them into mine, and you do the same with my bowl. But we're all tending the same fish.” The young salesman was disappointed about losing a big sale, and as he talked with his sales manager he lamented, "I guess it just proves you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink." The manager replied, "Son, take my advice: your job is not to make him drink. Your job is to make him thirsty." So it is with evangelism. Our lives should be so filled with Christ that they create a thirst for the Gospel. "The longer a church has been in existence, the more its resources go toward its own preservation rather than toward outreach and evangelism. Our tendency is to design ministries that meet our own needs as opposed to the needs of those who have not yet entered the kingdom." - Alan Nelson
